Jesus: The Son of God

PS BRENDEN BROWN | JUNE 21, 2026

We all know the phrase, "God helps those who help themselves." It’s a popular idea, but it’s actually a complete myth. The gospel is the exact opposite: We can’t help ourselves, so God steps in. When humanity made its greatest mistake, God didn't give up on us; He delivered the ultimate solution. He stepped into human history to redeem us, save us, and show us a love that is greater than any other.

No matter what your past looks like, what your experience of an earthly father has been, or even if you’ve been hurt by a pastor who didn't represent God well, God loves you. He is not against you; He is completely for you. Love comes from God Himself, and the entire point of Scripture from Genesis to Revelation is to point us toward His Son, Jesus.

1. The Son Was Promised

Right at the beginning, when Adam and Eve made the mistake of sin, humanity fell short. But God already had the solution. In the Garden of Eden, as God began to curse the enemy, He made a definitive declaration: Darkness, your hour is over.

"And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel." Genesis 3:15

God said He was going to plant a seed, and from the woman’s seed would come our Savior to permanently crush the serpent’s head. It sets a beautiful pattern for our lives today: every single time we fail, make a mistake, or fall short, grace stands up and says, "I have the solution."

2. The Son Was Foreshadowed

God didn’t just stop with a promise; He meticulously wove clues throughout history, foreshadowing the exact ways this victory would be manifested.

In the case of Abraham, when God called Abraham to offer up his only son, Isaac, the parallels to Jesus were striking. God told him:

"Take your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering..." Genesis 22:2

Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice on his own shoulders, just as Jesus would carry His cross. But on that mountain, a human's blood was not enough to take away sins. God stopped Abraham, providing a ram caught in the thicket to take Isaac's place. For the first time in Scripture, God was called Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide). Abraham foresaw Jesus on that very mountain, realizing God was looking for someone to do for Him what He was ultimately going to do for us.

In the case of Joseph, he was rejected by his own brothers, wrongfully accused, and sold into slavery for silver. While imprisoned, he was flanked by a baker and a cupbearer. The baker was executed on a pole, a shadow of Jesus, the Bread of Life, being hung on a cross. Meanwhile, the cupbearer survived to pour wine again, a shadow of Jesus pouring out His blood as a wine offering to God.

In the case of Moses, God raised him up as a deliverer to set His people free from slavery. Their freedom started with the blood of a lamb on the doorposts so the angel of death would pass over them. Then, the Israelites walked through the Red Sea. Passing through those waters was a picture of baptism. When you come out of the waters of baptism, it is a declaration that you are part of a new community, and your spiritual enemies have been washed away just like the Egyptian army.

In the case of David, his showdown with Goliath is a classic example of championship warfare, where a lone warrior fights on behalf of an entire nation, and his outcome determines theirs. When David defeated the giant, an entire army of hiding Israelites instantly inherited a victory they didn't fight for. In the exact same way, Jesus acted as our champion on the cross. He went one-on-one against the powers of darkness, winning a definitive battle so that we could live as heirs to His triumph.

3. The Son Was Prophesied

As history progressed, the Psalms and the Prophets began to explicitly predict the coming Savior.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

God also spoke of the cosmic authority this Son would possess:

"I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” I will proclaim the Lord’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession." Psalm 2:6-8

The Bible says that when the gospel is preached to the end of the world, then the end will come. Carrying the Church of Jesus Christ means you and me spreading this good news, digitally, in our workplaces, at the gym, and by reaching into communities to help. Every day we move forward is one day closer to the coming of Christ.

The prophet Daniel saw this eternal Kingdom clearly:

"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power... His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed." Daniel 7:13-14

Our outward bodies might perish, but our inward spirit is being renewed day by day. We belong to an everlasting Kingdom built on an unshakable Word.

4. The Son Was Announced and Revealed

After the book of Malachi, there was silence for 400 years. God just waited. Sometimes when God is silent in your life, it doesn’t mean He is absent; it just means He is preparing to do something powerful. In the perfect fulfillment of time, God turned up.

He broke the silence by sending the angel Gabriel to Mary:

"The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” ... “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus...’ 'How will this be,' Mary asked the angel, 'since I am a virgin?' The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God." Luke 1:28-35

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God did something completely outside the realm of science. If God can do that, He can impregnate you with a dream and make the impossible happen in your life.

Then, the Son was finally revealed:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:1, 14

When Jesus walked the earth, God's heart was fully revealed. At Jesus' baptism, and later on the Mount of Transfiguration, the Father's voice broke through the clouds saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

Listen to Him, Not the Noise. We have so many theologians, commentaries, and "studies" today, and so many people are being manipulated to one side or another. Let me tell you: don't just blindly listen to a church or a pastor and say, "That must be the truth." Listen, and then go discern it for yourself through the Word of God. The Bible warns that in the last days, people will look for things that tickle their ears. We must be a church that preaches Jesus and delivers the Scripture exactly as it is, the unadulterated truth of an unshakable God.

Even the demons recognized Him! When Jesus ministered, the enemy trembled and screamed out, "You are the Son of God!" Nothing can stop the voice of Jesus Christ.

The ultimate question for every human being is the same one Jesus asked His disciples in Matthew 16: "Who do you say I am?"

Peter answered: "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus responded by telling Peter that upon this rock He would build His church, and He gave them the keys of the kingdom, whatever is bound on earth is bound in heaven, and whatever is loosed on earth is loosed in heaven.

This is the key to everything. When you understand who Jesus is, you understand your own identity. If you are in Christ, you are an heir to the promise. You become a son or daughter of God. The same affirmation, acceptance, and affection that God poured out on Jesus, He pours out on you.

"In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various voices, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his son, whom he appointed heir of all things... The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." Hebrews 1:1-3

In conclusion, God is still speaking today through Jesus the Son Of God, He still speaks through His Word, His Spirit and He would say today that you are loved. Come to Jesus, receive His forgiveness and grace and remember this powerful verse.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:16-18
